Frame – yes or no?

Framed or unframed? A matter of taste – and attitude. When is a frame worthwhile, what does the floating look offer, and why are purists sometimes right? A guide for collectors, spaces, and personalities.

A matter of taste (and attitude/position).

In our opinion, our fine art prints look their best in a thin, black wooden frame with museum glass. Minimalist, elegant, clear.

Whether black, white, brown or something completely different – wood or aluminum, with or without passe-partout, anti-reflective or glossy – each variant has its own philosophy and beauty.

A particularly beautiful option is the floating look – the print appears to float within the frame. It looks fantastic, but we don't offer it for shipping because it's very sensitive to movement.

Even small vibrations can cause the print to no longer hang exactly as planned in the frame.

Those who prefer this style can have it professionally framed after receiving the print – we are happy to advise you on this.

Purism meets practice

There are purists who prefer to present their works unframed – directly on the wall, without glass, in order to allow the feel of the paper to be perceived.

This has something immediate and genuine about it – and can be very appealing, especially with fine art prints on cotton paper.

That's absolutely beautiful.

However, in busier spaces such as offices, medical practices, holiday apartments or hotels, we recommend framing to protect the artworks in the long term.

Ultimately, anything is possible – and anything goes.

Decision aid

Follow your instincts.

Look at your apartment with fresh eyes: Where should the picture hang?

Go into your own rooms as a visitor and observe what you see – and what you feel.

Then the decision usually comes automatically – including the size, color and material of the frame.

And if you like: Just send us a photo of your room – we'd be happy to advise you.

Formats, hanging and shipping

Our 40 × 40 cm format is a standard size that many frame suppliers offer in different quality levels and price ranges.

These prints can be ordered directly with a black wooden frame and white glass or UV-protective plexiglass – perfectly proportioned and securely packaged for shipping.

The following applies to the suspension:

One nail in the wall is usually perfectly sufficient.

For the larger 80 × 80 cm formats, however, we recommend two drill holes with dowels and screws or a gallery rail – so that the artwork hangs securely and remains straight.

We ship these prints unframed by default to avoid the risk of breakage and scratches.

However, upon request, we will review individual cases where framed shipping is possible – for example, for collection, courier delivery, or special projects.

Recommendation

If you want something simple, straightforward and quick – order with a frame.

If you want to design it yourself – choose the purist's bliss without a frame.

Conclusion

Framed or not – both have style.

The only thing that matters is that it suits you.

And to your apartment, your drink, and your wardrobe.
